 Ethereal indie act Cocteau Twins today landed the Q Inspiration title at the 2008 Q Awards with Russian Standard Vodka.
The group – vocalist Elizabeth Fraser, guitarist Robin Guthrie and later Simon Raymonde – pioneered a huge glassy, atmospheric sound layered with often incomprehensible lyrics.
Disbanding in 1997, the band barely dented the charts with releases such as Pearly Dewdrops Drops, Iceblink Luck and Evangeline – but were a huge influence on many who heard them.
The 2007 Q Inspiration winner was Damon Albarn.
