Alan Carr to host Q Awards bash

Comedian Alan Carr, presenter of Channel 4’s Sunday Night Project and one of Britain's funniest stars, is to host the 2008 Q Awards with Russian Standard Vodka.

Carr will be officiating at the event on October 6 - after all but stealing the show at last year’s ceremony - which is renowned as one of the most raucous and prestigious dates in the music calendar.

The presenter, who is as provocative as he is charming, will be calling the shots as the cream of the rock and pop world from the past, present and future gather at the Grosvenor House Hotel.

Carr was a guest at last year’s awards event, presenting an award - alongside his fellow TV host Justin Lee Collins – to Kylie Minogue, and with his hilarious off-the-cuff comments proved to be the life and soul of the party.

He said: "I'm gonna make sure it's the most rock ‘n’ roll event in the music calendar. Cos you don't get more rock ‘n’ roll than me. As Gloria Estefan said 'the rhythm is gonna get ya.”

The event will see the likes of Coldplay, Duffy, Muse, Adele, Rage Against The Machine, Kaiser Chiefs, Last Shadow Puppets and Vampire Weekend among a host of acts fighting it out for a Golden Q on the day.

The Q Awards are unlike any other UK music ceremony. With only 450 guests, the event is a unique and intimate celebration with arguably the world’s highest concentration of musical talent and fame.

This year also sees Q Radio playing host to three exclusive shows, the ONLY place to get all the news and all the backstage gossip.

Meat Loaf to win 2008 Q award

Rock superstar Meat Loaf will collect the Classic Song prize at the 2008 Q Awards With Russian Standard Vodka next week, it was announced today.

His epic 1979 single Bat Out Of Hell – taken from the album of the same name, recorded two years earlier - will be honoured with the title at a star-studded bash at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.

The incomparable rock track follows previous winners such as Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks. Weighing in at nine minutes and 50 seconds, the track was unlikely single material but made it to number 15 in the UK charts and has gone on to become a timeless classic.

Paul Rees, Q’s editor in chief, said: "There are some songs that transcend such things as time and genre, and Bat Out Of Hell is assuredly one of them. It sounded extraordinary when it was first released, and it appears no less so now- - like something beamed in from another planet. Extraordinary, and magnificent too, thanks in large part to one of the great vocal performances on record. For all those reasons, Q is delighted to award it - and the mighty Meat Loaf - the Classic Song award at this year's Q Awards with Russian Standard Vodka. I, for one, have already tuned my air piano especially for the occasion."

Meat Loaf – who has sold more than 70 million albums during his chart career - will be presented with his awards on October 6.

He said: “I am honoured to receive this award and owe it all to the fans who think “Bat Out Of Hell” is such an extraordinary piece of work that it has sustained its place in the charts for so long - and to Paul and Q. I really enjoyed working with Todd Rundgren. Thanks to him for his genius work and vision that we don’t need a real motorcycle, I can just do it on my guitar.”

Rundgren produced the album, although the song itself was written by Jim Steinman.

You can visit our awards mini-site here. And you can catch all the winners as they are announced on October 6 on this site.
