• only could ever be arctic monkeys that won for me, headlining 2 of the biggest festivals of the year. done Lancashire County Cricket Club and been touring the world. they had a lot of pressure on them aswell to do better than "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" witch i think they surpassed.

• Not bein funny Q but arctic monkeys are just another indie band whereas muse have so many unique and diifferent levels to there band. There the only people nominated to have done 2 sell out gigs at wembley stadium. monkeys headlined glastonbury but thats lots of bands.I know this is people voted but surely you need to publish something here-this is just not right

• Put it this way - out of all the nominees i would honestly put arctic monkeys last and i think that there are many better bands than arctic monkeys. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon because ther songs were the slightest bit catchy. -got two much airplay and annoying. new album was nothing really fresh.

  Muse have included classical piano pieces into great rock riffs and it works.You can really sense different influences in songs and they have meaning.

  Headlined: Oxygen, Isle of wight, Benacassim,
  Austin City Limits
  
  Wembley Stadium 140 thousand plus tickets to see 1 band.

• MUSE have well and truly been robbed again. Theyve been consistantly amazing since the 90s for crying out loud! these awards are so bias to the new fads flying around. Dont get me wrong alex turners lyrics are something to get moist over but the music in general lacks. Theres nothing there their music doesnt inspire me i cant live the music. With muse theyve got me into a whole new world of seeing music not just if its catchy but for the wonder of it how simple riffs like plug in baby can get wembley stadium bouncing 2 nights in a row. And how their so commited going around the world and back just to reach out to their fans that live in the middle of nowhere! and all of their crazy da bellamy code antics how many other bands do that?!

  gahh.. Boo at this going to the artic monkeys they should be striped of it along with most of their other awards it just goes to their heads so their so far up themselfs they dont know which ways fowards.

• Re-listen to 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' - are you trying to tell me that this is the kind of material which the 'BEST Act In The WORLD Today' produces?

  Now listen through Black Holes & Revelations. It's a totally different league. They're not churning out the same old bullshit as everyone else, they're innovating and pushing things forward - there's no other band in the world who you can quite compare to their style. And most importantly they pull it off. The tunes are catchy and memorable, the quality of music is so much better and then there's Knights Of Cydonia. Best rock track this year.

• I'm genuinely shocked how anyone can think that Favourite Worst Nightmare is a regurgitation of the first album...are you deaf, stupid or just silly bigoted little monkeys?

  Having said that I'm also glad that you tossers hate the arctics as that just proves the point...they're not commercial, they don't pander to musos...their music is different, intelligent and lyrical and they showed a huge amount of confidence and maturity by delivering a second album 12 months after the first that actually showed real development (as opposed to Kaisers, etc)...

  Arctics are the best band out there at the moment, with maybe Killers second...the rest are just pretentious or past it...end of! However, I would say Killers are a better live band...Alex needs to learn a bit of stagecraft...once he does (and it will only be a matter of time...he's just a genius kid for f's sake) and when they produce a third album which makes all you doubters eat your ill-conceived words then we'll all realise that we have something really special here and something to be proud of worldwide...in the meantime, I'm more than happy to be in the minority...easier to get tickets!

• There is no doubt that Muse is the best band in existence. Just the thought of other bands beating them is beyond me... U2 is pretty damn legendary and incredible, but I definitely think Muse deserved this recognition. Anyone who has seen them live would agree I'm sure. And it's not just the light show (which is awesome.) The band's presence on stage is incredibly energetic and they sound absolutely amazing. The music is passionate, dramatic, and extremely intense. The members are some of the most talented musicians today (in my opinion Matt IS the most talented.) They sound comparably better live than in studio. Seeing them in concert was the best experience I've had!

• Hehe, after Muse have toured the world and made a more 'pop' directed album to appeal to the masses, it'll pave the way for the next one...

  It's going to decimate everything in it's path. Let the Monkey's have their short lived fame, for things like this will only push Muse to create the masterpiece they're destined to produce.

  This time next year, or the year after, it'll take something like Led Zeppelin to make a new album to stop Muse on their war path. It wouldn't surprise me if they're already making arrangements to have a 100,000 capacity gig on the moon to accompany the release.

• This thread gets more hilarious by the minute...so funny for such a lightweight and meaningless award...in terms of something with more credibility then how about the Mercury Prize? • I like the Arctic Monkeys, they have good songs and catchy lyrics but I don't quite understand why they got voted as best act in the world today? I've seen all of these bands live; The Killers are a lot bigger over the continent and around the world, have made two very diverse albums which are excellent. Muse have made four quite exceptional albums which have pushed their own amazing, unique style, and like everyone says if you haven't seen them live just don't even comment. Foo Fighters are still making great stuff and if anyones listened to their new album you'll know what I mean. I know people are saying U2 are washed up, they may not be the best band around at the momment but I'm sure they will captivate people again with their next album.

• I like Arctic Monkeys but c'mon compared to Muse. Muse have been blowing our minds for years whereas the Arctics are only babies(musically) and they arent pushing any major musical boundries like Muse are.Muse have toiled for so long to get the regonized for their beautiful music. and man i like the AM i have a very big crush on Alex Turner hes hot!! but I think prehaps this time the ultimate trio should of won. but hell i wouldn't want a recount we all know that they are both brilliant bands in their own style and i do think that AM do appeal to a wider range of people than what muse do!! • I'm sorry, this discussion is hilarious. Muse fans saying they want a recount and Arctic Monkey fans replying so angry at what is being said. You are all overreacting... Muse have their fans, the monkeys their own. The Monkey fans voted the most, so they won. Very big deal is it? Do you really think Matt, Dom and Chris sleep one minute less because they didn't win the award, while they sold out Wembley twice in June. (I was there and it truly was magnificent.)
  I'm from The Netherlands and before april this year I didn't even knew the monkeys.
  I don't think they are the biggest band in the world. I saw them at Pinkpop this year and they were uninspiring and dull. I didn't like it at all (and still don't...)
  But let them have they award. I hope they are pleased with it. I couldn't care less...
  As long as the bands have their fans who are dedicated to them why should they care?

• Yeah, U2 suck all the way to billions of records sold and trillions of tickets, etc, etc. Why does this happen from South America to Asia? I saw Muse at lollapallooza and was mildly interested. Arctics sound pretty cool. This wasn't "Best band from Sheffield" to steal from another's post. Admittedly, you brits usually get it more "right and proper" when it comes to music than we do in the states, but shouldn't at least a few people of heard of the "Best Act in the World"? And from what i could tell fo the acceptance, they are completely up their bloody arses! Show a little gratitude you little pukes! U2 shaven't made a truly inspired album in a while, but the next one will have the same anticipation as always because it might be incredible-and they'll sell out the wembleys of the ENTIRE world!!!

• Hey! I think MUSE are great! I'm going to see them play next week! But Favorite Worst Nightmare is clearly a better album than Black Holes And Revelations. But I respect everybody's opinions! But is there really necessarily to fight over this award?

• Foo Fighters are leagues ahead of all these bands and have been around longer than any. Just look at album sales and worldwide popularity. Arctic Monkeys are not big in say, Australia. Just UK. Foo Fighters are Numero Uno everywhere!

  Arctic Monkeys=Indie Shit.
  U2=Never even releasd a record this year
  Muse=Good but not quite as good as Foos
  Killers=Overrated Mainstream crap

• arctic monkeys have been around for a year.. they should not even fall into this category yet.. to mr. foos above me, everythin dave grohl sings sounds the same. and im a guy who has a couple of their albums. if you are honest with yourself you'll agree with me ,but, by all means continue on in your cosy little bubble . . muse should have won it , hands down cuz those guys are untouchable at the moment . i reckon Radiohead will get it next year if Q have any sense to add them to the nominees list . which they should .

• i agree with everyone who was here before me! muse were well and truly robbed.. arctic monkeys? their music is passable, their guitar riffs simple, their lyrics simpler and their bass riffs? terrible!

  i mean muse are veterins at this stage! and so unrecognised.. just because some new flash in the pan indie media hogger is the "hot thing" at the moment dosent justify their reciving of this award..

  though i'm almost glad muse is still relativly unknown. at least its the true fans that like them!!!!

• Wow this got touchy the ting is if your name is U2, Arctic Monkeys, a former member of the Beatles or Oasis you will win an award or get a 5 star album review this mag is so biased its unbelievable.
  To be the best in the WORLD not the most popular in the UK the you need a good lot of albums to be known in the US and in the East now there are 3 bands that fit that U2, Foo Fighters and Muse
  U2 are shite and are in it for the money these days
  Foo Fighters are the biggest and best in the world and so are muse.

  Everlong or Fake tales of San Fransisco
  Plug In baby or Bet that you look......

  Now there alot of atctic fans here but just look at the facts!!

• The Killers, Foo Fighters, Muse and U2 were all probalby the 'flash in the pan', 'new over hyped' band when they started out. arctic monkeys deserve to be up there with them, they've worked just as hard for it.

• SO many petty arguments.

  U2-Good but havn't released anything recently

  Killers-Good and less recognised than they should

  Foo fighters- only just released new album so cant really be judged to well

  Which leaves the Arctics & Muse

  Arctic's-two yrs old-glastonbury n sum cricket ground this year. Couple of Catchy riffs maybe but simple and mainstream indie rock

  Muse- Wembley stadium sold out twice, Parc des princes, Isle of Wight, Oxygen Festival and this is a year after the album has been released if you want to go onto the year of realease you can add reading & leeds to that.
  Sumthink different- incorporating big issues into simple songs- piano and heavy rock riffs working perfectly together.
  Matt Bellamy recognised as a guitar genius by Total guitar. Put alongside names such as JIMI HENDRIX AND EDDIE VAN HALEN

  Ill let you make your own decision
